When creating a course with a partner or guest expert, how should payout be managed? Is it best to have a written contract or is email documentation enough?

When I bring in a guest expert, I typically do not offer a payout. Being introduced to my audience and having the chance to share a link to their own program is often a big benefit for them. That visibility can be more valuable than a flat fee.

If you do choose to pay a guest expert or partner, I recommend offering a flat fee instead of a percentage of your course profits. A percentage split should only be considered if you are truly co-creating the course together from start to finish.

No matter the agreement, I highly suggest putting it in writing. A simple written contract is best, even if the arrangement feels casual. It protects everyone and avoids misunderstandings down the line. We have some great attorneys inside DCA who offer templates for this kind of thing, so be sure to ask in the Facebook group if you need help getting started. Keep it professional, clear, and fair for everyone involved.
