What do you do when your audience really isn't sharing during your validation calls? Is this a red flag that it's not a viable niche?
Not necessarily. Just because someone isn’t opening up right away doesn’t mean your niche isn’t viable. Sometimes people feel a little nervous getting on a call with someone they don’t know, or they’re unsure what kind of input you’re looking for.
Try reframing how you introduce the call. Let them know you’re creating something new and want to understand what they truly need. Keep the focus on them. You might say something like, “I’m creating a brand-new program and would love to understand more about where you’re at in your journey. If you're open to it, I’d love to ask a few questions. It won’t take much of your time.” That kind of invitation feels more personal and less like an interview.
Also, remember to listen more than you speak. If there’s a pause after they respond, resist the urge to jump in right away. A brief pause gives them space to reflect and often leads to deeper, more honest sharing. This little bit of silence can be incredibly powerful, as people will often keep talking just to fill the gap.
If you're still not getting much engagement, consider offering a small incentive for their time. It could be a 15-minute coaching session, a strategy call, a $10 gift card, or access to a workshop. A simple gesture can go a long way in encouraging participation and showing that you value their input.
The most important thing is to keep showing up and being curious. If you're not getting the insights you need after several calls, it may be a sign to tweak your questions or approach, not necessarily your niche.
