How do you recommend setting up an affiliate partnership for a brand I promote inside my course?

If there’s a product or tool you use and love, it’s a smart move to promote it inside your course. A lot of the time, that product or brand already has an affiliate program in place. If that’s the case, you can usually apply directly on their website and get your own tracking link, no negotiation needed.

But if they don’t already have an affiliate program, and you want to promote their offer to your students, I suggest reaching out to them directly. Typically, 30-50 percent commission is standard when someone promotes a product to their audience, so you can use that as a starting point in your request. Be clear about what you’re offering and the visibility they’ll get inside your course, and then negotiate based on their response.

No matter what, you need a tracking link or some way to clearly identify the purchases that come through your course. Without that, there’s no way to ensure you're getting credit for the sales you generate, and you want to feel confident about that.

Here’s an example: I promote Membership.io because I use it myself and believe in it. I share a special affiliate link with my students that gives them a discount, and I earn a commission when they sign up. It’s a win-win: my students get a great tool at a lower price, and I earn affiliate revenue for recommending something I genuinely stand behind. That’s the kind of partnership to aim for.
